Community Choir Wakefield

Community Choir Wakefield

The Community Choir’s main mission is to alleviate loneliness and social isolation by bringing people together through music and providing laughter and joy along the way. Not only does the Choir help to bring joy to its own members, it is dedicated to helping brighten the day of the community as well. The Choir has performed at many venues and events across the community, even performing at some WDH Independent Living Schemes. The charity is built on the idea of improving the wellbeing of everyone, whether that be the members who are able to build friendships and grow their own confidence, or the audiences the Choir performs in front of.

Friarwood Festival

Friarwood Festival

The Friarwood Festival is an annual, low cost, community event which showcases the best local musical talent. The festival is organised by a small group of volunteers from the Friends of Friarwood Valley Gardens group. The event has a huge focus on making sure it is accessible as possible and encourages community support. This is done by providing local musicians both new and established the opportunity to perform in front over around 4,000 people, as well as allowing local businesses to attend. The funds raised from the festival are then invested into the upkeep and improvement of the Valley Gardens with this year’s proceeds funding tree carvings and planting along with the new Coronation Garden.

Vibe Fitness

Vibe Fitness

Vibe Fitness provides dance and fitness classes for all of the community helping to reduce anti-social behaviour within teens and promoting healthier and more active lifestyles. Free dance and boxing sessions provide a safe and practical space for young people to attend with professional coaching. Vicki was inspired to become a dance teacher after attending youth clubs herself and is now working tirelessly to give back to the community with Vibe. The group also runs low cost Zumba, yoga and mini-trampolining sessions to help promote health as well as giving people a space to create new friendships and build confidence.
